Bro... Charger Undo?

That's how the conversation started. Somewhere between that one question and me quietly escaping to another compartment... I thought I escaped the situation. Turns out, I didn't escape .....

Soo like any other normal working day, yesterday also I boarded the MEMU (train) to go to the office. There was light rain… and, the crowd was comparatively much less than every other day Due to the flood!

Yeah, anyway…This day was different.

As the train left the station and moved forward, I was standing near the door—as usual—getting all that cold air and those small raindrops coming through the door.

Idk how many of you can relate to this...but It’s one of the best feelings, bruhh. 🌧️🚆

Yh anyways...This day was different.

As train was moving in, and me enjoying the nature, a guy from behind called me. My first thought was like…

“Oh shit… Is he going to tell me not to stand near the door? Or does he want me to close it?”

I turned around. There was this guy...

Long hair...Enough beard...Idk why... but the very first thing that came into my mind was...

"Bro if u groom once... you'll actually look damn good." 😂

I looked at him for a second...before I could think anything else...

“Bro… charger undo?”

The question was completely normal. But he was drunk. I don’t know why… I suddenly felt pity for him. I said, “No bro, I don’t have one.” And genuinely, I hadn’t taken my charger that day. Allelum avashyam ulla divasam… ath edukilla. 🫠

After around five minutes, he asked me again.

“Bro, charger undo? My phone is going to die.”

I again said, “No bro… I don’t have one.”

Then after some time…

“Bro, enikku charger venam.”

I was like, “Bro… njan eduthittilla.”

He was like, “Vere aarelum kaanumayirikkum alle?”

And the conversation just continued. (and i felt like bro's memory refresh interval was probably 5 minutes.)

Somewhere around Changanassery, he said:

“Njan Ernakulam povan aanu. Train edukkand aarnu… njan irangi bus pidikkam.”
And I don’t know… but the inner me felt relieved. Like…

“Okay… maybe I don’t have to handle him for the entire journey.”

Then he asked:

“Bro, vellam undo?”

And I was like, “No bro…” 😭
The last time I carried water with me was probably during my first semester of college. 🫣

After some time, again:

“Bro… enikku vellam venam.”

I said:

“Bro, ente kayyil illa. Changanassery ethemppol shops kanumm… avide irangiya madii .” (fr i just wannted to escape from him...)

He nodded. The rain continued. Changanassery reached.

But he didn’t get down.

The train started moving again. Then slowly… he started talking about himself. He said he was an assistant director. He had worked with many famous actors in the Malayalam film industry. He had been in the industry for more than 12 years. He was talking about work… about joining back after two weeks… and a few other things.

I don’t know… Hearing all that, I somehow felt even more pity for him. That's all that kept coming into my mind.

How.

He has experience. He has worked with people everyone knows. His name literally comes on Google.

Still...
Here he is.
Drunk.
Asking random strangers for a charger... Water... Just talking...
Like... how did life end up here?
I tried not to think much.

But then...

"Bro... oru video edukko..."

I took one. Then another. Then another. Then another 😭

Idkk...

Initially I thought okay...Just 10-15 more minutes... Kottayam ethumbo irangum. But then...

Bro liked my videos. 🫥

Like...Bro...Even I don't like the videos I shoot. I'm literally one of the worst people when it comes to photography.

Still bro was like...

"Nannayittund." 😭😭

And he decided not to get down at kottayam, saying we can have more videos all this journey,..i was like manhh...where have i got my head into...how can i escape from this, people around thinks we both are traveling together so no ones gonna speak up for mee..!

Kottayam reached.

Again...He didn't get down. At that point...I was like...

"Nahhh... I'm screwed."

He agian asked for water and i said, checkout the shops and outside and then he finally got down.

I was praying...Please... Either let the train leave before he comes back...

Or...

Please let him change his mind and go by bus. 😭

But.....
Bro came back, with a small juice., handed it to me.

"Bro... ith onnu pidiche."

I'll be honest...That was probably the point where I crossed my patience, Not because he was drunk, Not because he asked for help,

I just wanted my peace.

Morning train...Rain...Door...Music...

That's all I wanted.

Then he again continued with his story and in middle wanted to go to restroom, w had a small argument about memu having bathrooms. The inner me was like bruhh, i m traveling in this train for past 3 years, ik it has one, don't argue with me😏

Idkkkk...I saw that as my only chance to escape and hence i badly wanted to make him use it....so i showed him and he somehow went.....

The second he went inside...

I quietly walked away to another compartment. NOT 1 or 2...i moved back 5 compartment so that by no chance i have to meet him again, i just wanted to enjoy my travel of the day cause it was very niceee.

I escaped 🙂

But...

My thoughts didn't.

Whole journey...Whole office time...Even while coming back...He was still somewhere in my head.

Idk if it was because he was drunk or because...he just looked tired.

Not physically. Life.

Maybe I'm completely wrong.
Maybe he has the happiest life ever.
Maybe yesterday was just one bad day.
I genuinely don't know.

But...

That whole incident reminded me of something else.

We all know someone...

Who keeps sending reels.
Randomly texting.
Trying to be in ur circle.
Laughing at every joke.
Always saying yes.
Always showing up.
Putting effort.
Maybe...that's just their way of saying...

"Don't leave me behind."

I know people who keep everyone smiling…But somewhere inside, they know they are alone. No matter what they do.

I know people...who'd literally do anything for the people they care about...
Yet...when they need someone... nobody's there.

So yeah…

Yesterday wasn't really about a drunk man.It was about...how little we actually know about the people around us.

Take care of the people who put effort into being in your life. Acknowledge them.
Talk to them properly.
Be compassionate.

Because... we never really know what someone is carrying inside. 🤍
